
The No. 1-ranked Emory golf team closed out its participation at its Discover DeKalb Spring Invitational on Sunday. The 54-hole event was played at 6,535-yard, par-71 Smoke Rise Country Club in nearby Stone Mountain.
The Eagles posted a runner-up finish out of 14 teams with a score of 878 (294-287-297). No. 2-ranked Huntingdon took home first-place honors with a mark of 865 (294-287-297). Guilford College was third at 880 (287-301-292) while the Emory 'B' Side (884) and St. John's of Minnesota (886) rounded out the top five.
Freshman Logan Ryan paced the Eagles' contingent over the final 18 holes with a score of two-over par 73. Eric Yiu carded a 74 while senior Connor Yakubov and junior Matt Organisak rounded out the squad's scoring efforts with each player shooting a 75. Junior Sam Galloway checked in with a 79.
For the tourney, Yiu was Emory's top performer with a three-over par 216 (70-72-74), good for a sixth-place tie in the 82-player field. Ryan tied for eighth on the leader board at 217 (72-72-73) while Yakubov (77-71-75—223) and Organisak (77-72-75—224) tied for 20th and 24th, respectively. Galloway finished with a three-round mark of 231 (75-77-79).
Freshman Andrew DiPetrillo was the top scorer for the B Side with a five-over par 218, good for 10th place overall. DiPetrillo fired a three-under par 68 during Saturday's second round that represented the top performance by an Emory player during the event. Sophomore Davis Hingtgen was the No. 2 scorer for B group with a 220.
Huntingdon College's Stephen Shepherd played his way to medalist honors with a two-under par 211 (71-69-71).
