Chamblee wins back-to-back All-Sports award

A second consecutive girls’ tennis state title clinched a second consecutive DeKalb County School District All-Sports Award for the Chamblee Charter High School athletics program.

Chamblee tallied 310.5 points during the 2017-18 school year to reclaim the all-sports award, beating out Lakeside, which had 235.5 points. Chamblee’s girls’ tennis team finished the 2018 season with a 22-0 record and the Class AAAAA state title.

The tennis team also led Chamblee’s athletic program to a ninth-place finish in the Class AAAAA Georgia Athletic Directors’ Association Director’s Cup standings.

Chamblee won five Region 5-AAAAA titles during the athletic season in boys’ and girls’ tennis, girls’ soccer, girls’ cross country and volleyball. The baseball, fast pitch softball and boys’ cross country teams had second-place finishes in region standings.

In county competitions, Chamblee brought home several championships and runner-up plaques. The boys’ swim team won the county swim meet, the girls’ swim team finished second, and both the boys’ and girls’ golf teams finished second in the county’s golf championships.

Lakeside’s second-place finish in the county’s All-Sports Award standings was led by the cross country teams. The boys’ cross country team won the Region 7-AAAAAAA title, and both boys’ and girls’ teams qualified for the state meet. Both tennis advanced to the Sweet 16 of the Class AAAAAAA playoffs and the girls’ soccer and volleyball teams had playoff appearances.

Lakeside’s girls’ golf team won the county title while the boys’ team finished third. The gymnastics team finished second in county competition. The boys’ swim team finished second in county meet and ninth overall in the Class AAAAAAA state meet, while the girls finished fifth at county.

The Arabia Mountain Rams finished third in the All-Sports Award standings with 283.5 points. The Rams won Region 5-AAAAA titles in four sports—football, baseball, softball and boys’ track and field.

Tucker finished fourth in the award standings with 269.5 points. Tucker won Region 4-AAAAAA titles in girls’ soccer, football, girls’ and boys’ tennis. The football, boys’ soccer and girls’ tennis all reached the Elite Eight of the Class AAAAAA state playoffs.

Stephenson rounded out the Top 5 in the awards standings, finishing fifth with 262.5 points. Stephenson brought home Region 4-AAAAAA titles in girls’ track and field and boys’ basketball.
